Social Events
DESRIST wouldn’t be DESRIST without time to step away from the sessions, to meet new people, reconnect with old colleagues, and let the conversations spill into the evening. We’ve planned two official social events to do exactly that. Find more detailed descriptions below:
- Monday, June 8, 2026, from 6:00 PM: Welcome Reception at Schloss Münster
- Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 7:00 PM: Conference Dinner at A2 am See
And beyond the official program, our team has put together a few Unofficial Adventures. See the section further down the page.
Welcome Reception
An informal opening to DESRIST 2026: drinks, light food, and a chance to reconnect with the community before the first full conference day. A short welcome from the conference chairs, then time to talk. You can already pick up your conference badge here, and since the reception takes place inside the conference venue itself, you’ll get a first glimpse of where the next three days will unfold.
The Schloss is one of Münster’s landmarks: an 18th-century baroque palace built by Johann Conrad Schlaun.
Location: Schloß Münster; Schlossplatz 2, 48149 Münster (Google Maps)
Start: 6:00 PM
Conference Dinner
On Tuesday evening, we’ll head down to the Aasee, Münster’s lake. Our venue, A2 am See, sits right on the shore. If June plays along, expect the evening to spill outside, with drinks on the terrace, sunset over the Aasee, and a summer party right by the water.
Location: A2 am See; Annette-Allee 3, 48149 Münster (Google Maps)
Start: 7:00 PM
Getting there
From the conference venue at Schloss Münster, all roads lead to the Aasee. Pick whichever fits your mood:
- Walking (≈ 12 min): The most scenic option. Walk through the Schlossgarten and the Aaseepark, and you’ll arrive right at the water. If you’ve joined the Guided Tour on Tuesday afternoon, this is already your route. The tour ends at A2 am See, so you can transition straight from sightseeing into the dinner.
- By bike / scooter (≈ 5 min): Münster is the bicycle city of Germany. Borrow one from your hotel or grab a rental. There are also several e-scooters you can rent for small distances like Dott/ Tier, Bolt, Voi or Quick.
- By bus: The closest stop to A2 am See is Goldene Brücke / Aasee, just steps from the venue. Useful routes:
- From Schlossplatz, walk about 8 min (550 m) to the Hüfferstiftung stop. Take Line 14 in direction Gallenkamp / Picasso-Museum for two stops to Goldene Brücke / Aasee
- From the Hauptbahnhof or hotels along the Hbf line: Take Line 14 directly to Goldene Brücke / Aasee.
- From the southern city centre or Aaseestadt: Lines 2, 9, 10, and 16 also pass close to the Aasee, with short walks to the venue.
- For real-time departures, use Google Maps, the Stadtwerke Münster network plan or the münster:mobil app (Apple; Android).
Unofficial Adventures
Beyond the official program of the DESRIST in Münster, we’re hosting a set of “Unofficial Adventures” – optional get-togethers designed to make networking easier (and more fun). Guided by Nina, Marie, Johannes, and Michael (all PhD/PostDocs from our department), these informal activities are open to everyone, from first-year PhD students to senior scholars.
Stay tuned via the WhatsApp group (https://chat.whatsapp.com/KKx7F6u7QyQJbY75jMQtE6) or just talk to us at the conference.
Guided Tour
On Tuesday, we invite you to a guided tour of Münster’s city center, exploring the highlights and hidden corners of the town. The tour conveniently ends at the conference dinner location at the A2, so you can seamlessly transition from sightseeing to socializing.
Morning Run
For those who like to start the day with a boost, our second Unofficial Adventure is an early morning run around Münster’s famous promenade on Tuesday. We’ll keep the pace relaxed to leave room for conversation, and with two different starting points, it won’t be far from your hotel. A refreshing way to energize for the second conference day.
