New Format: Startup Forum – AI in Practice
As part of DESRIST 2026, we’re excited to introduce a brand-new format: “Startup Forum” This special track offers a unique platform to showcase cutting-edge, AI-related projects that have either resulted in the creation of an innovative startup or have been developed and implemented in close collaboration with industry partners.
Hosted by the Flow Factory, the joint research lab of the University of Münster and the Sparkassen Finanzgruppe, this session aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world application. We want to see how DSR is creating tangible value and driving innovation today.
The Vision: From Research to Real-World Impact
In line with the conference theme, “Design for better futures. Beyond the science of the artificial,” this format focuses on the practical side of designing these futures. We’re looking for projects that demonstrate how AI-driven artifacts are not just conceptually sound but are actively shaping more efficient, intelligent, and user-centric processes in practice. This is your chance to share the story behind your project, highlight the challenges you overcame in a real-world setting, and demonstrate the measurable impact of your work.
Who Should Submit?
We invite researchers, practitioners, innovative startups, and doctoral students to submit their AI projects. We are especially interested in work that:
- Presents a novel AI-based solution to a concrete business problem.
- Was developed and evaluated in a close partnership between academia and industry (including startups, established companies, or public sector organizations).
- Can demonstrate clear, measurable impact and practical relevance.
- Offers valuable insights into the process of co-design, agile development, and knowledge transfer.
Format: Interactive Poster Session
The “Startup Forum” track will be held as a dynamic and interactive poster session. This format provides an excellent opportunity for in-depth discussions, direct feedback, and networking with both academic peers and industry experts in an innovative environment. Present your work, share your journey, and inspire others with the real-world power of DSR.
Submission Guidelines
To participate, please submit the following documents:
- Extended Abstract (max. 2 pages): Briefly outline the problem context, the design of your AI artifact, the nature of the industry collaboration, and the demonstrated impact of your project.
- Poster Draft: Provide a preliminary design of your poster that visually communicates the key aspects of your project.
Submission Deadline: April 30, 2026
We look forward to your contributions and to showcasing the impactful potential of AI in practice at DESRIST 2026!
